Bark-cloth collaborative workshop

    ‘Bark-cloth in Uganda – Natural Sourced Textile: History, Background, Production and Technique’, an intensive workshop between the textile Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat-Gan and the Margaret Trowel School of Industrial and Fine Art at Makerere University Kampala. Facilitated by CoCuDi Center, in collaboration with the African Studies Gallery the weeklong workshop will start on Monday 26 April 2021.

    The workshop will include theoretical lectures, demonstrations, online field visits and hands-on workshop for 12 students from the textile department in Shenkar and 12 students from CEDAT Makerere. The unique workshop is led by Dr Venny Nakazibwe, deputy-principal at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University Kampala. Dr Nakazibwe is a leading expert and researcher on bark-cloth, and will be assisted by Doreen Namatovu, Esther Ndagire Kavuma and Angella Babirye. The Shenkar team led by head of Textile Design Dept Hadass Himmelschein, and includes Yuval Etzioni and Shira Soval.
