A community-based education sponsorship program supporting vulnerable children from K’far Rishon Namutumba, Uganda, to access kindergarten and primary education.
This partnership builds on CoCuDi’s long-standing work in Namutumba District through the Namutumba Innovation Agriculture program and VSLA community resilience network.
K’far Rishon Namutumba is a progressive Jewish community in Eastern Uganda, located in Namutumba District. Since June 2021, the community has operated a small education sponsorship initiative for vulnerable children. The program began with 20 students and has grown to 41 children by 2026, from baby class to Primary Four. The students currently attend African Soup School as day scholars.
CoCuDi USA is now helping the community transition the initiative from a volunteer-led donation circle into a structured, transparent, and monitored education program.
From a volunteer initiative to a sustainable education program
Education access is a direct need identified by the community. The program already exists and has demonstrated continuity. The next step is not to start from zero, but to strengthen what is already working. CoCuDi’s involvement builds on its trusted work in Namutumba through NIA and VSLA community resilience programs. The first priority is to protect the continuity of the current 41 students before expanding.

The direct school cost is currently estimated at approximately $250 per child per year. To operate the program responsibly through CoCuDi USA, the full fundraising target may also include accounting, banking, transfer fees, coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
A clean and transparent structure
Because the previous scholarship funds were managed through external arrangements in the U.S., CoCuDi USA and K’far Rishon Namutumba CBO are beginning with a clean-slate framework. Future funds will be documented through clear agreements, local steering committee oversight, school invoices, CBO receipts, school receipts, student lists, and termly reports.
CoCuDi USA
Receives donations, records donor-designated funds, manages U.S. accounting, and transfers approved funds.
K’far Rishon Namutumba CBO
Coordinates the program locally, receives funds, pays the school, keeps records, and reports.
African Soup School
Provides invoices, receipts, attendance information, and student progress updates.
Local Steering Committee
Includes a general coordinator, treasurer, pedagogic coordinator, and secretary.
